Giroud, the man who begun his Arsenal adventure last year, enters the new campaign off the back of a strong last 19 Gameweeks. Originally from Grenoble, he eventually made his way to Montpellier before coming to the Wenger managed side. In his last season at Montpellier, Olivier bundled in 21 and 9 assists in 36 league matches. Has generally improved each season, at least from a statistical point of view. At 26, Olivier should now be approaching his peak, so if he is ever going to be the star the Gunners fans hope he will become, expect big things this season. Looking at the stats, his first 19 Gameweeks read;

His last 19 read;

So given his second half of last season, if he can continue in that vein, he'll be someone certainly worthwhile given his FPL price of 8.5. Given Arsenal are a free flowing, free scoring side and given Giroud will lead the line for majority of the season (as long as the Gunners don't manage to sign), a potential 15+ goal season is quite a possibility. The other thing to consider is Giroud's blistering preseason form, scoring 8 already. He has gone on record as saying he is a 'form' player, and thus this certainly bodes well. Relatively unique option who could well start the season on fire!

Reasons to Start with Giroud

  • Will lead the line for Arsenal
  • Strong pre-season form
  • Finished the last campaign with a BANG!
  • Strong opening fixture list
  • Majority of international players take a season to adapt to English football
  • Arsenal scored the most goals at home in the Premier League, potential captain option...

Reasons to Not Start with Giroud
  • Reasonably pricey
  • Very much a 'form' player
  • Arsenal may still sign a striker

Synopsis

Not much more to say really. If you see the value and potential, then you'll look to bring him. Hard to deny his pre-season form, and with all those considerations above don't be surprised if Giroud dominates throughout this season!
